Today is the final day of October which is better known as Halloween which means trick or treating. Well not quite.  It is trick or treating for the entire country except for Toms River and some of the surrounding towns which hosted that part of the holiday yesterday.

The unseasonably warm weather and fact it was a Sunday brought out a swarm of kids to our home in Beachwood. Probably in the neighborhood of 300 or so.  I ran out in the afternoon to get more candy and ran into others doing the same but the evening was cut short for the older kids when heavy rain started around 7 p.m.

Of course we had trick or treat Sunday because tonight is the annual Toms River Halloween Parade which is bigger than the holiday itself.  The 78th edition organized by Toms River Volunteer Fire Co #1 steps off at 7pm from the corner of Route 37 and Main Street and it looks like ideal weather conditions with temperatures in the upper 40s.

With one week to go the national polls indicate the race for President is tightening and clearly the Trump campaign has been invigorated by recent news that the FBI is re-opening its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email use.  However we don’t elect our president with the popular vote but rather the Electoral College system and that still favors Clinton with Trump needing to come from behind in several key states.  Of course who knows what developments will factor into the election this week?

Community Medical Center is holding a Robotic Surgery Open House tomorrow from 8 a.m. -3 p.m. in their outpatient lobby where the public can “test drive” the da Vinci Robot.  It’s the latest in robotic technology used in surgical procedures and surgeons and staff will be available to answer questions while you get a first-hand look at how it works.  The da Vinci Robot is designed to help surgeons perform minimally invasive procedures and the benefits include shorter recovery times, less risk of pain and infection.
