Two men from Atlantic City are facing a long list of charges following a violent shoplifting arrest in the city Monday afternoon.

The Atlantic City Police Department says two of their officers responded to Bass Pro Shop for the report of two men shoplifting.

At 2:35 pm, Officers Gabriel Chevere and Syed Shah responded to the Bass Pro Shop for a report of two men shoplifting items, including a handgun magazine. The officers attempted to place Marquis Harison in custody, but he pulled away from the officers and a violent fight ensued. While attempting to place Harison in custody, he began to punch Officer Chevere in the face, and dropped a handgun to the ground during the struggle. Harison attempted to reach for the handgun, but the officers were able to pull him away. Bass Pro Shop employees began to call 911 in an effort to get to the officers assistance. As more officers arrived, Harison was placed in custody.

Harison’s handgun was found to be stolen from Pennsylvania and loaded with hollow-point ammunition. He also had an active warrant for his arrest.

The second male, Kaleef Ardis, was taken into custody without incident by responding officers. He was also found in possession of a handgun and had an active warrant.

21-year-old Marquis Harison of Atlantic City was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow-point ammunition, certain person not to possess a weapon, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, shoplifting, and contempt of court.

20-year-old Kaleef Ardis, also of Atlantic City, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow-point ammunition, certain person not to possess a weapon, and contempt of court.

Both were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
