(Update) from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, "Suspect, Shamar Kerr, is in custody. Toms River Police Sgt. Keith Diehl located the suspect at approximately 8:42pm in the area of an Exxon Gas Station located at 2096 Route 9 (near the intersection of Rt9 and Cox Cro Road in Toms River). The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The investigation continues.

(Earlier) Ocean County law enforcement officials release the identity of the suspect at the center of a manhunt this evening. 24-year-old Shamar Kerr of Jackson Township is wanted for allegedly attempting to run over a Toms River police officer with his car, that led to the patrolman's discharge of his service revolver.

Prosecutor Joseph Coronato and Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little said the incident began as a multi-agency investigation into drug activity in the Grande Woodlands Development in Toms River at 4:16 p.m. this evening.

According to their press release, "A Preliminary investigation indicates that Toms River Police officers were on foot approaching a vehicle that was suspected of being involved in drug activity with the residential neighborhood. The driver attempted to run a police officer over with his car at which time the officer discharged his service weapon. The driver fled the vehicle on foot."

"Kerr is described as 5'5", 165 pounds with braided hair. He was last seen wearing navy blue pants, and a gray zip up hoodie sweatshirt.

Kerr has been charged with Attempted Murder, Eluding Police, and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with the Intent to Distribute. An arrest warrant has been issued and bail has been set at $500,000."

"Anyone who has any information about Kerr's whereabouts is asked to call 911. The public is asked not to approach Kerr."
