As we move into the final quarter of 2017, we'll also be closing the calendar on the 250th anniversary celebrations for Toms River, and the township is asking for your help in commemorating the birthday!

Following in the footsteps of the Township's 225th anniversary in 1992, a time capsule will be filled with objects from today and sealed for future generations to look back on.

Between now and then officials are asking for the public's submissions for items to go into the time capsule. Public Information Officer, Stacy Proebstle says that:

Our goal is to preserve the history of Toms River and give residents and businesses in the Township the opportunity to be a voice in the future.  Items should be significant to Toms River and be smaller than a fist.  Letters, photos and small mementos could all go in the capsule.

If you'd like to submit an object for consideration, the Township asks that you include an index card with your name, address, telephone number and description of the item.

Items can be dropped off at Town Hall, 33 Washington Street Monday through Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm in the Clerk’s Office by November 29th.

They're expecting to receive more items than they'll be able to fit in, so similar items will be grouped together and items to go into the capsule will be randomly chosen from the different groups.

The public is invited to attend the sealing ceremony on Friday, December 8th at 10am at Town Hall, when the 225th anniversary time capsule will also be opened.
