Some middle of the week notes and thoughts.

While he’s not on trial Tuesday was not a good day for Governor Christie as one of his former appointees and pals said the governor was aware of the traffic jam caused on the George Washington Bridge as part of a political payback against a pair of North Jersey mayors.

During the trial of two of Christie’s former lieutenants David Wildstein said the governor was not only aware what was going on but laughed when he heard about the frustration over the snarled traffic.  Christie has repeatedly denied knowing anything about “Bridgegate” and he could be called as a witness during the trial.

Toms River’s Frankie Edgar will be part of the first mixed martial arts fight card ever held at Madison Square Garden.  The former lightweight champ is part of a monster UFC 205 event on November 12th headlined by a title matchup featuring Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez.  The soon-to-be 35 year old Edgar will take on Jeremy Stephens just four months after losing a unanimous decision to Jose Aldo.  New York was the last state in the nation to legalize MMA.

Edgar is a former standout wrestler at Toms River High School East and one of the sport’s most popular fighters.

The Point Pleasant Athletic Boosters are hosting a Panther Pride Fun Run on Sunday, October 9.  The 5K walk/run begins at 8:30 on the high school track and you can register online at runsignup.com.  The boosters are volunteers who support all of the athletic teams at Point Borough High School and one of their main reasons for fundraising is to provide scholarships to graduating seniors.

Congratulations to Toms River High School South girls’ basketball coach Sarah Paturzo and her husband Tom on the birth of their son.  “Steele” Paturzo arrived on the scene yesterday afternoon, weighing in at 8.9lbs and 20 inches in length.  All are doing well!
