Thoughts for a Transitonal Tuesday

Some Tuesday morning notes and thoughts.

Today marks another day this winter featuring cancellations and delayed openings although much of Ocean County got a bit of a break yesterday as the storm moved north from the original forecast.  Southern parts of the county received mostly rain but the story was a bit different as you moved north, especially into Monmouth County.  Meanwhile we could be looking at two more storms this week with many of us counting the days until spring arrives.  It’s 45 for those who are counting.

There has been a lot said and written about the job New Jersey and New York did as hosts of the first outdoor, cold-weather Super Bowl.  My conclusion is that should the NFL consider doing something like this again it be held in another location for two main reasons.

First it’s only fair to spread the wealth around although frankly it’s really the owners of the stadium who get wealthy as the economic impact is greatly exaggerated.  Second is that there are better host cities with thriving downtowns near the stadium in which everything can be held in a centralized area.  My guess is most of us won’t see a Super Bowl back here again.

I expected fireworks on last night’s “Ask the Governor” program on WOBM but that never materialized.  Governor Christie reiterated his stance that he had no prior knowledge of “Bridgegate” and insisted he wants to get to the bottom of the story just like everyone else.  He told host Eric Scott that his focus now is on getting things done in New Jersey and all the callers who go through discussed individual matters that pertained to them and not any of the recent controversies involving the governor.

Since 1964 Bob Auriemma has been the guiding force of the Brick Township High School Ice Hockey program and in that time has become the winningest coach in New Jersey history while guiding the Green Dragons to six state championships, five public school titles and 8 Gordon Cup championships.  Tonight Auriemma can achieve another milestone when Brick plays St. John Vianney at the Jersey Shore Arena in Wall.

A Green Dragons victory would be the 700^th of his illustrious career.  Auriemma, who came to Brick in 1962 to coach football with Warren Wolf, was one of the inaugural inductees into the New Jersey High School Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010 along with his former star player Jim Dowd.
