Thomas Alva Edison was born this day in 1847. Even though he wasn't born in New Jersey, all of his important discoveries and inventions occurred here. He was nicknamed the "Wizard of Menlo Park," and of course the town of Edison was named for him. His final days were spent in West Orange. His most important inventions were the light bulb, and the wonderful item pictured below - the phonograph. Where would rock and roll radio have been without it? Thanks, Mr. Edison.
