When the song became a Top Five smash for Buddy Holly, the real PEGGY SUE was the girlfriend of Crickets member Jerry Allison. Peggy and Jerry later married, but eventually divorced. Peggy later remarried, had two children, and worked in a dental office. She was also a very active ham radio operator. PEGGY SUE GERRON died yesterday in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 78, but the song she inspired will live forever.
