As I’m sure many of you know Townsquare Media has four radio stations in the Monmouth/Ocean County area and it’s not unusual for us to promote events for one station on the others especially when there is civic or charitable aspect to that event.  Such is the case with the Ocean of Love Billboard Radiothon now taking place on 105.7 The Hawk.  Since 5pm Monday afternoon host Andy Chase has been living on a billboard set up in the Target/Lowe’s Shopping Center on Hooper Avenue in Toms River.

This has become an annual fall tradition for the radio station and for Andy who is totally committed to once again reaching the goal of raising $105,700 for Ocean of Love, a Toms River-based organization dedicated to supporting families in the ongoing fight against pediatric cancer.

The money raised from this radiothon is used for multiple purposes with the main goal to help local families who are dealing with the horrors associated with children and cancer.  As if the medical challenges are not enough these families often suffer dearly because of mounting medical bills which take precedent over their everyday lives.  Ocean of Love provides the emotional support and financial support from helping with living expenses to travel expenses to and from out-of-area hospitals. They have also paid for the funerals of children who lost the fight.

Over the years they have assisted the families of more than 400 children and the good news is that better than 50% of those kids are now cancer-free.  Nobody would argue against the impact Linda Gillick and this organization have had in our community.

Certainly Andy Chase is a supporter which is why he again accepted the challenge to live on top of the billboard this week where he will be until tomorrow around 6:30pm.  As of early this morning the total was just over $36,000 which means another $70,000 is needed to meet the goal.  The bad weather has passed and the sun will be shining over the next two days and you can help the cause.

Feel free to visit Andy and the Hawk crew and drop off a donation in person…again they are in the Target/Lowe’s Shopping Center on Hooper Avenue in Toms River.  You can also phone in donations to 1-877-HAWK-1057 or visit the Ocean of Love website at ocean-of-love.org.

Due to the billboard radiothon tonight’s Investors Bank High School Football Show has been moved to 1160/1310AM beginning at 7pm.  Guests include Toms River East coach Charlie Diskin and standout running back Matt Gudzak and Red Bank Catholic coach Jim Portella.
