THE MONKEES Debuted on NBC this Day 1966

Peter, Mike, Mickey and Davy made their TV debut today as The Monkees - September 12, 1966 on a Monday night on NBC. Everything timed out perfectly because "Last Train to Clarksville," released only a few weeks prior, had already ascended to the #1 spot on the music charts in time for the premiere. The Screen Gems series garnered Emmy Awards in its first of two seasons, and has enjoyed a long life in reruns.
