The effects of Saturday’s massive snowstorm are still being felt as several school districts remain closed today and many others have delayed openings.

While this clearly presents problems for working families the number one factor should always be safety. Some of the larger districts are still digging out parking lots and sidewalks and another concern has to be children waiting at bus stops which in some cases probably have them in the middle of a street. Hopefully with warmer temperatures and even some rain the melting process will get a boost today.

One of the things that struck me when watching the Golden Globe Awards earlier this month was the number of TV shows I was not aware of because they are broadcast through on-demand streaming providers like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. I’ve caught the Netflix fever in recent months and during Saturday’s snowstorm began watching “Mozart in the Jungle” on Amazon Prime. I never heard of the show before the Golden Globes where it won for Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy) and also for lead actor Gael Garcia Bernal.

The show is actually in its second season and we’ve made it through six of the ten 30-minute episodes of the first season and I’m hooked. The classical music comedy is based somewhat on a book written some years ago by a musician who spent a career playing in well-known orchestras. It’s quirky and funny and meant for adult audiences. A great binge-watch on a cold winter day.

Things were going very smooth for high school athletic directors before Saturday’s snow but now some will be scrambling to try and make up postponed events. That was made especially difficult by Monday’s school closings and of course today for some districts. The Shore Conference Wrestling Tournament will hold its first three rounds on Thursday at the top four seeds: CBA, Howell, Wall and Jackson Memorial.

Originally the preliminary round was scheduled for tonight but because schools were closed Monday it was pushed back to Thursday. The semifinals and finals are set for Saturday at Red Bank Regional High School. Southern Regional, the top ranked team in the shore is not participating in the event for a fifth straight year.
