"A lot of the New Yorkers were crossing over to New Jersey just to place their sports bets, and now they don't have to," said Roger Gros, publisher of Global Gaming Business magazine.
One asked whether New Jerseyans should be able to bet on sporting events involving New Jersey college teams and any college sporting events occurring in the state.
A pair of polls from July and September found more opponents than supporters of a plan to expand sports betting to include New Jersey-based college sports.
"After a slow start, Pennsylvania casinos are poised to challenge New Jersey's current East Coast internet betting hegemony, if not this year certainly by 2022," industry analyst Anthony Marino told New Jersey 101.5.
Attendance and wagering increases at Monmouth Park, combined with strong July numbers at Meadowlands Racetrack, have raised the perception that sports betting would be a positive for New Jersey.
