Stu Chaifetz says after a long discussion with an official of the Cherry Hill School District, he felt confident they would conduct a serious investigation, and “you can get justice from that, and that maybe, action will be taken… I think I got what I was looking for – I guess I was never going to get an apology – but the fact that there is an investigation is really important to me:10 as a father.”

He says with all the publicity surrounding what happened to his son Akian, he’s hopeful legislators will strengthen Jersey’s anti-bully bill, so there’s the potential that no other parent will have to go through what I did – and that is just an amazing feeling that something real can come out of this…every time I’ve had to hear my son cry it’s hurts every single time, and this is really the first time in a long time – dealing with this issue- that I’m able to go wow, there’s some hope here…I mean I can’t change the past, but maybe, maybe with all this attention …we can change the future.”

At the same time Chaifetz points out “I reserve the right to release whatever I want – at any time – but I want to give justice a chance here to work itself out…I just hope all Jersey residents give a little thought to special needs children…and that we really need to look out for them, especially in classes where they’re most vulnerable…we need to protect the weakest amongst us, the most vulnerable amongst- and I hope people consider that and really join the campaign to make that happen.”

He also says he hopes this case makes a strong impression on everyone “so that any teacher in the future will fear speaking bad to a child, or any aide will fear speaking bad to a child because they’ll be worried that they’ll lose their job.”

The autistic boy’s teacher – Kelly Altenburg – is currently on paid leave while the investigation is conducted. She denies verbally abusing the child.
