PORT NORRIS — State troopers know that on a daily basis they will be expected to be ready for the most unexpected of circumstances. That was definitely the case for four members of the State Police who helped deliver a baby right in the parking lot of their barracks in South Jersey.

Detectives Matthew Hanlin and Andrew Abdill answered the call on Wednesday morning when a woman, already on her way to the hospital, detoured to the barracks as her labor was going faster than her van. Hanlin and Abdill were joined by Troopers Bryan Blair and Tyler Dornewass, with the four helping to deliver a healthy baby girl.

Thanks to their initial help, mother and daughter were safely transported to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland where a hospital spokesman said they were doing well after the eventful morning.

The delivery at the southern barracks comes almost exactly a year after troopers in Ridgewood helped deliver a baby on the Garden State Parkway
