FREEHOLD -- Who knew a Batman umbrella or a Bob's Burgers holiday sweater could be so philanthropic?

At a new store in the Freehold Raceway Mall, your purchase of these items and countless other unique gifts can end up assisting a neighbor in need.

For every $10 spent at BoxLunch, which doesn't sell any food as the name would suggest, the company donates the equivalent of one meal to Feeding America. The specific beneficiary for this location is the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

It's a permanent campaign, although BoxLunch does have a special holiday effort that guarantees a minimum of 1,650,000 meals by the end of 2016.

"You're shopping with a good cause," said Casey Dalziel, manager of the pop culture and novelty gift store. "You're getting something and you're giving back."

The mall location opened its doors on Nov. 22 near the food court. BoxLunch has one other New Jersey location in Deptford.

According to Carlos Rodriguez, executive director of the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, every dollar earned from this partnership can produce three meals for hungry residents. Hundreds of local partners, he said, will benefit from this effort.

"If you're a shopper, you don't have to take any extra steps," Rodriguez said. "You can help a loved one that you know and you can help a neighbor that you don't know through an initiative like this."
