Shawn Patrick Rose, 20, is charged by New Jersey authorities with a third-degree count of child pornography possession. In South Carolina, Rose faces two first-degree counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, acording to the office of New Jersey Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino.

Detectives of the Division of Criminal Justice and Cape May County Prosecutor's Office said that they found numerous files of sordid images in an initial search of computers seized in Rose's house. Rose was placed in the Cape May County Jail to await a detention hearing.

State investigators undertook the probe after receiving information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which was notified by an online file hosting service.

The e-mail and IP addresses were traced to Rose, along with data from to an e-mail account and a social media site that connected Rose to sexually-explicit chats with individuals believed to be under the age of consent, authorities said.

One of the suspected juveniles was traced to South Carolina. Investigators allege that Rose received explicit images from the teen, and tried to persuade her to perform sex acts during a video chat. Members of the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office and First Circuit Solicitor's Office identified the alleged victim.

Rose's case is assigned to Deputy Attorney General Joseph Remy. The AG's office did not indicate whether Rose retained an attorney.

The charge filed by New Jersey investigators carries a sentence of three to five years and a fine of up to $15,000. Each first-degree charge filed in South Carolina has a potential sentence of three to 20 years, with no parole consideration until the minimum sentence is completed.

Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
