Asbury Park drive by shooting injures 5, police say
ASBURY PARK — Five men were hospitalized after a drive by shooting on Saturday night.
The group was standing in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Monmouth Avenue near the Asbury Park Gardens when shots were fired from a passing car around 11:30 p.m., according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
Spokesman Charles Webster said two people were taken by paramedics to Jersey Shore University Medical Center while at least two other people were taken by private vehicles.
The injured were identified only as a 27-year-old male who was treated and released; a 25-year-old male with non-life-threatening injury but remains hospitalized; a 29-year-old male with non-life-threatening injury but remains hospitalized; a 27-year-old male with non-life-threatening injury but remains hospitalized; and a 31-year-old male who was treated and released. Webster did not disclose their names.
No arrests have been made in the shooting.
The news site RLS Metro Breaking News reported that about a dozen shell casings were found in the area of the shooting.
Asbury Park Police and the the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office continue their joint investigation into the shooting. Webster asked anyone with information about the shooting to call the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 1-800-533-7443 or Asbury Park Police at 732-774-1300.
Saturday's shooting comes almost a month after 10-year-old Yovanni Banos-Merino was fatally shot in February. Banos Merino was killed when Karon Council fired at a house on Ridge Avenue when the person he was looking for wasn't home, according to prosecutors.
