At this time last week we were wondering if a big snowstorm was really on its way or would this be another miss by forecasters. Clearly many of them got this one right.

However we really got a break this week with warmer weather and so much of the record snowfall has melted already. What’s even better is that temperatures are expected to be in the 50’s next week and there is no sign of cold weather in the forecast so the melting trend should continue.

The Shore Conference Wrestling Tournament is down to four teams following last night’s action and to no surprise it’s the top four seeds who advanced into Saturday’s semifinals at Red Bank Regional. CBA, Howell, Wall and Jackson Memorial each won a pair of matches Thursday with 3rd seeded Wall surviving a major scare from Toms River South in the pre-quarterfinals.

The Crimson Knights won the match by criteria before edging Middletown North to reach the semifinals where they’ll meet Howell while CBA wrestles Jackson Memorial. Both those matches are 3pm tomorrow with the winners to collide in the finals at 5:30. For complete coverage of last night’s action visit shoresportsnetwork.com

Speaking of that, we are proud to announce that the Shore Sports Network has signed a five-year contract agreement with the Shore Conference of High Schools to serve as their exclusive media partner on tournament events. This follows a one-year pilot program between us and the 47 high schools that make up the Shore Conference. Among the joint programs we will work on is the Sportsmanship Awards breakfast which will be held again at the Pine Belt Arena on May 15th.

The Pine Belt Arena will be busy this weekend with all-day basketball events on both days. Tomorrow it’s the first-ever Toms River Basketball Showcase, a six-game event in which all three Toms River schools along with three others from Ocean County are playing teams from out of the area. The action begins at 11am with Toms River East playing Middletown North, followed by Toms River North against Union and Toms River South facing South Brunswick. Donovan Catholic takes the court at 4:15 to battle Ridge, followed by Central Regional versus North Brunswick and in the final game Manchester meeting East Brunswick.

Sunday Mater Dei Prep is hosting the Valerie Fund Basketball Challenge at the Pine Belt Arena with the five-game event featuring matchups involving St. Anthony, CBA and Mater Dei Prep. All proceeds will benefit the Valerie Fund
