Congressman Jon Runyan has met with  several officials to get the post office relocated. The result is a temporary location in Ocean Beach, completely outside of the borough for customers using Lavalette's zip code 08735.

"The USPS' decision to locate Lavalette's temporary post office in Ocean Beach is unacceptable," Runyan tells the Asbury Park Press. "The planned temporary location must remain within the boundaries of Lavalette."  Runyan adds that the Toms River Police Department also considers the Ocean Beach location a "public safety hazard."

Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy, Runyan and Lavalette Mayor Walter G. LaCicero all expressed their concerns in a meeting with Postal Service officials on April 30th.

Meanwhile, some Lavalette residents are considering taking further action.  They may contact Senator Robert Menendez (D)  for help in finding another relocation site, that would be closer to most Lavalette residents and more suitable for postal customers.
