Bill Haley and His Comets recorded their legendary version of "Rock around the Clock" this day in 1954. The song was originally done by Sunny Dae and the Knights, but was not a hit for them. Bill Haley's version was also not an immediate success. It was its inclusion in the soundtrack for the hit Glenn Ford film Blackboard Jungle that propelled it to the top of the charts where it stayed for eight weeks in 1955. The song was such a success that the Rock around the Clock film was built around it in 1956. Enjoy it again below.
