The  body of a missing 17-year-old diver from Westfield was found in the waters of the Shark River Inlet in Belmar on Sunday morning.

Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty said the boy's  body was found under the bridge over the inlet. Earlier, Doherty said  searchers were going to do a "full court press to try to find him" after revealing that the operation had become a recovery. His identity has not been disclosed by police.

Doherty said the Shark River Inlet would be closed around 12 noon at low tide forr an hour to allow for a thorough search of the inlet  as the teen may have been drawn into the Shark River.

US Coast Guard Petty Office Seth Johnson said the search resumed again with the use of a helicopter and small boats Sunday morning after the Coast Guard cutter Ibis searched throughout Saturday evening.

"This morning Coast Guard Station Atlantic City did an overflight and Coast Guard Station Shark River took the small boats out and did a search of the inside of the inlet," Johnson said.

Johnson said New Jersey State Police divers are also part of the search, as was Belmar Water Rescue.

A "diver down" flag, which indicates someone is diving in that spot, was found in the water.

Officials found the teen's car and other personal belongings on Saturday. His family was also in Belmar at the time he went missing.

Belmar Police reported the teen missing around 5 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and they began a search with Avon-By-The-Sea Police and were joined by the Coast Guard.

"It's a tragic situation for all the people who come  to Belmar and the Jersey Shore. It's rare for something like this to happen. It's really unfortunate and terrible for his family," Doherty said.
