An e-mail to Lakewood PD's public information officer has elicited no response, yet, to the incident reported in the Lakewood Scoop August 1.

According to the publication, one of the children in Elmwood Village handled the weapon without pulling the trigger, unaware that it was loaded, before they told an adult, who contacted police.

The report, surfacing on new Chief Greg Meyer's first official day at the head of the force, goes on to say that an unloaded handgun was found the previous day on North Lake Drive.
