Following a new traffic pattern at the end of day September 4th, emergency repairs to the Broadway Bridge in Point Pleasant Beach are scheduled to begin on September 5th.

The traffic change will result in one of the westbound lanes closing which will not affect the eastbound lanes. A three-ton weight limit will also remain in effect during the repairs.

During a bi-annual state inspection, six of the fifty-six wood pilings were found to be deteriorating. Several others require repair within three months.

Ocean County freeholder John P. Kelly, who serves as liaison to the Ocean County Engineering Department said, "We responded to the state's report immediately, first, by lowering the weight limit on the span and also securing a contractor that could do the work. We have been closely working with borough officials to keep them informed of our progress."

A fiberglass sleeve will be installed around each damaged piling, which will then be filled with steel reinforcement and concrete.

Walker Diving is the contractor will was hired to do the repairs that are expected to take three to four weeks to complete.
