Remembering Toms River Shooting Victim Brandon Holt [VIDEO]

A funeral was held Saturday for 6-year-old Toms River shooting victim Brandon Holt at a church filled with green.

Several hundred mourners filled St. Joseph's Church in Toms River as green ribbons were tied around nearby trees, and many mourners wore green ribbons or green attire to honor Brandon, whose favorite color was green according to the Asbury Park Press.

“How many times have we look at what happened this week and said, ‘what could have been different?’” Rev. Scott Shaffer according to the Patch of Toms River.  “If only, if only, if only.”

Shaffer talked about the positives of Brandon. “My goodness did he life that life" in recalling a boy that was full of energy and always had a smile. "One little life touched an awful lot," he said. "Be at peace, little buddy," Shaffer told the assembled according to the Patch.

Friday night following his wake, holding candles tied with a ribbon of Brandon's favorite color of green, mourners walked in the damp spring air from the Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals on Main Street to Huddy Park, according to the Asbury Park Press, where the  candles were put out as they stood under the park's gazebo.

“This was the best way to honor Brandon,” his aunt Laura Decker of Brielle told the Press. “We wanted Brandon’s voice to be heard and make a statement.”

"More Safes for Brandon Act"

A website for the Brandon Holt Memorial Fund has posted what they call the  "More Safes for Brandon Act" described as a "mother's wish" for a law requiring those who wish to purchase a gun to provide proof of a "federally coded weapons safe or device" in a home before the purchaser to actually handed their weapon. The safe would need to be inspected every two years.

Ocean County and Atlantic County law enforcement remains silent on their investigation into the Monday evening shooting in which a 4-year-old neighbor shot Brandon in the head with a rifle he found inside his parents home. No charges have been filed.
