Random thoughts and notes on a Monday  as I deal with a head cold.

I would say “battle or fight a head cold” but that terminology should be reserved for something more significant than an illness that results in sneezing, coughing and a runny nose.

While I am certainly not a Yankees fan it’s almost sad to see them without Derek Jeter in the lineup as they have fallen behind the Tigers 2-games-to-none in the American League Championship Series.  The Yankee captain suffered a fractured ankle in the series opener Saturday and is done for the season. Jeter will see a specialist in North Carolina this week and will not be with the team in Detroit.  Last night marked the first postseason game since 1981 without Jeter or Mariano Rivera on the Yankees roster.

Special thanks to Central Regional High School and Superintendent Tommy Parlapanides for Friday's Hall of Fame ceremony which including the induction of the 1971 Golden Eagles undefeated football team.  About two dozen members of that squad returned to the school and it was great seeing so many of my teammates and coaches.  It was especially fun because I then broadcast the Barnegat-Central game on our Shore Sports Network which the visiting Bengals won 16-7.

At halftime Dr. Parlapanides himself visited us in the press box with food and drink which was much appreciated.  Barnegat’s Pat Moran was named our Klee’s Bar & Grill/Ocean Trophies Player of the Game.

In their first-season in Class A South, Lacey is now in the driver’s seat to win the division title after Saturday’s come-from-behind win over Southern coupled with Brick Memorial’s loss to Toms River North the night before.  The 6-0 Lions still have division games coming up against Jackson Memorial, Brick and Brick Memorial over the next three weeks.

Without question the highlight of my weekend was going to The Office Restaurant & Lounge with my wife and daughter for sushi Saturday night.  Alex came home for a rare weekend visit to rest, relax and get her winter clothes and I cleared my sinuses with plenty of wasabi mixed in with soy sauce.

Enjoyed the new “Touchdown Roll” plus an old standby…the “Nick Roll” which is named after Assistant GM Nick Pagano.  Outstanding!
