The three-car collision occurred shortly before 4:30 PM at the intersection of East Kennedy Boulevard and Clifton Avenue.

Township police allege that Elijah Chandler, 34, of Jackson, assaulted one of the other drivers, began harassing others involved, and then began hurling invective at bystanders, threatening physical harm.

Chandler was also charged with simple assault, criminal mischief and two counts of harassment. His bail in Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River was set at $41,000, with no option for release on payment of 10 percent.

Police did not identify anyone else involved in the crash, nor did they elaborate on any possible injuries, or damage to cars or property.

It's the second report of bias intimidation in as many days at the shore. Howell Township police are searching for a woman who allegedly grew hostile against an Orthodox Jewish boy at the Walmart in that township.

Criminal charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
