Regardless of how you feel about Obamacare everyone can agree that the focus today is on preventative health with many making a greater effort on eating correctly and staying or getting in shape through exercise.

However a friend of mine had an interesting conversation with his doctor following a recent check-up and the question-and-answer session provided some unexpected feedback.

Q:     Is it true that cardiovascular exercise can prolong your life?

A:      Your heart is only good for so many beats and that’s it so don’t waste them on exercise.  Everything wears out eventually.

Q:     Are their advantages of taking part in a regular exercise program?

A:      I can’t think of any.  My philosophy is…no pain, good!

Q:     Should I reduce the amount of alcohol I drink?

A:      No, not at all.  Wine is made from fruit.  Brandy is distilled wine which means they take water out of the fruity part so you can get even more of the goodness that way.  Beer is made out of grain which obviously is good for you.

Q:     Are fried foods bad for you?

A:      No, because they are fried in vegetable oil…how could that be bad?

Q:     Is chocolate bad for you?

A:      No again as it’s made out of cocoa beans…another vegetable.  Probably the best feel-good food there is.

Q:     Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting soft around the middle?

A:      Definitely not!  When you exercise a muscle it gets bigger.  You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q:     Is swimming good for your figure?

A:      Of course not…look at whales.

Q:     Is getting in shape important?

A:      Yes, round is a shape.

After hearing this from my friend I asked him for his doctor’s name and phone number but he refused to share it.  He’s afraid he’ll get so busy that it will be impossible for even him to get an appointment in the future.
