The Asbury Park Press says Matt Gomez was the only person aboard the single-engine Cessna 182 when it

came down hard at Monmouth County Executive airport in Wall around 4 p.m. Saturday.

Gomez had just taken up some skydivers and was attempting to land when the plane hit some grass in front of the runway and skidded several feet on its underside. The cause of the accident remained under investigation, though it appeared that mechanical failure may be to blame.

Gomez was being treated at a hospital Saturday night, but further details on his injuries were not disclosed.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
