LITTLE EGG HARBOR — An Ocean County boy is OK after he was bit by a pet snake.

The Asbury Park Press reported the two-foot long family boa constrictor escaped its cage on Monday night, and bit the boy near his eye in his home, in the Mystic Island section of Little Egg Harbor.

The boy suffered only a "slight abrasion" above the eye, according to the report.

According to Reptilesmagazine.com, boa constrictors make "great pets" because of their inquisitive nature, while being docile and usually living in aquarium tanks. They also need a shelter in their home to make them feel safe and secure.
