The Oyster Creek Nuclear Power Plant was temporarily shut down Monday morning due to an undisclosed equipment issue on the non-nuclear side of the plant.

Operators were able to shut down the unit without incident around 10:15 am to further examine the cause and effect of the equipment issue and were working to test and restore the system prior to returning its service.

There's been no indication as of yet when service will be restored but officials confirm that it won't impact any of the electrical service it provides to customers.

Officials say the Oyster Creek Plant produces 636 net megawatts of electricity at full power, which is enough electricity to supply 600,000 typical homes which in comparison equals every home in Monmouth and Ocean counties combined.
