HAMILTON (Atlantic) — A man was killed and his brother injured in an early Black Friday morning shooting at a South Jersey mall.

Atlantic County Acting Prosecutor Diane Ruberton said a 20-year-old Atlantic City man was shot several times in the parking lot outside the Macy's store at the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing. The shooting happened around 1 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His brother, a 26-year-old man from Clayton, was taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg, according to Ruberton, who said he is in stable condition.

The brother who died was identified as Demond Cottman. The injured brother was identified as Shadi Cottman.

 

Ruberton did not reveal a motive for the shooting.

According to the Macy's website, the department store was open at the time of the shooting. The mall, located on Black Horse Pike, had been opened until midnight on Thanksgiving but was closed at the time of the incident.
