The animals were found October 12 near Stafford Avenue, about a quarter-mile off the road, according to the Stafford Police Facebook post.

Both cats are domestic short-hairs. A brown-and-black tabby was found dead and a brown-and-tan tiger with white markings was clinging to life.

Authorities believe that the death was caused by a .22-caliber bullet found inside the cat.

The tiger's condition was given as critical, citing head trauma and wounds and fluid in the lungs, believed to have been inflicted through beating and shaking.

If you recognize the surviving feline, or are aware of any circumstances involved, the Stafford Animal Control Department urges you to speak up, 609-597-1000, extension 8524.
