A woman who was stabbed in the abdomen during a verbal argument with her boyfriend is recovering following surgery.

Police in Monmouth's Ocean Township have charged 34-year old Luis J. Plaza with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

The 27-year old told police when they responded to Jersey Shore University Medical Center around 10:35 pm Thursday night, that the incident occurred during a robbery attempt outside of a liquor store.

Further investigation by police found out the robbery never happened and the incident actually occurred during an argument the two were having inside their residence at the Twinbrook Village Apartments last night.

Police say Plaza then attempted to treat his girlfriends wounds before driving her to the hospital.

The victim was last listed in stable condition following surgery at Jersey Shore Medical Center.

Plaza was arrested without incident and transported to the station for processing before being brought to the county jail pending an initial court appearance.
