Ocean Gate Turbine Too Loud At Night?

The small community of Ocean Gate suffers a snafu with their first wind turbine and residents are now seeking more information.

The news comes on the heels of several complaints from local residents about the noise level around the neighborhood where their turbine stands.

Tests were done by the Ocean County Health Department for the daytime and nighttime. Recently, the borough received a letter stating the decibel levels in the evening are unacceptable and are in violation of a state administrative code. Ocean Gate Attorney James Guck tells WOBM News, they are currently working to find out what’s wrong because he says the letter was lacking.

Gluck says “the correspondence dated March 30th says the recorded noise measurements in response to citizen complaints from several streets in the area show a significant violation of the New Jersey Administrative Code, Title 7, Chapter 29. It’s essentially a minor violation. Our issue is the letter failed to inform us what was out of bounds. It was not specific on noise level numbers or anything like that.”

Gluck wants to assure the public and the residents in the area of the turbine that they will fully cooperate in the Health Department’s investigation. He adds “concurrently, the Borough continues to evaluate and study the units in order to make improvements that will maximize the efficiently and benefits of its operation – taking the noise into consideration.”

A call to the Ocean County Health Department yielded a no comment to what is an ongoing investigation.
