Nor’easter Winds Down With Sleet, Snow and Cold

New Jersey's pre-Thanksgiving Nor'easter is in its final stages with rain turning to snow and sleet as cold air sweeps through the area.

Heavy rain fell all night across the state leading to flooding on some roads. Any remaining rain could turn to black ice especially on road surfaces overnight. Around 3 inches of rain fell around the state although Hanover received 4 inches according to the National Weather Service's observation.

There was flooding during the morning commute on I-287 and the Garden State Parkway. A truck went off Interstate 95 southbound just past the Scudder Falls Bridge in Bucks County closed the right lane backing traffic back up into New Jersey which has since cleared.

Temperatures started the day around 60 on Wednesday morning but fell during the afternoon into the 40s. The rain could end as some snow on Wednesday afternoon and roads could freeze up as the cold air moves in. A Wind Advisory for coastal areas was canceled although winds will still reach 20-30 MPH out of the south.

PSEG, JCP&L and Atlantic City Electric power outages from earlier today have been restored across the state.

Most flights were on time at Newark, JFK, Philadelphia and LaGuardia airports according to FlightAware.com as of 3:40 p.m. Earlier, flight cancellations piled up at East Coast hubs. By midday Wednesday, around 250 flights to, from or within the U.S. had been canceled, according to FlightAware.com. But that was a small fraction of the thousands of planes airborne over the U.S. at any given moment.

The rest of the holiday weekend looks good with high temperatures in the 40s with sunny skies while Sunday will be cloudy but with no precipitation.
