Non-Profit Helping Storm Cleanup Needs Volunteers

The outpouring of support continues in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.  One non-profit organization is looking for some new volunteers.  Based in Newark, Jersey Cares was established in 1993 and works to increase civic engagement in the state by coordinating volunteer opportunities to address community-identified needs.  Sandy was certainly a storm of epic proportions and had their staff and volunteers springing into action to see what they could do.

The non-profit continues to work on the cleanup and recovery efforts.  The number of volunteers have dropped off compared to last month.  Senior Director of External Affairs Sherry Lynn Fazio says "we began collecting items for victims the day after Sandy hit.  Our mission has changed now that most of the distribution centers have closed up.  There is still a need to help but the focus is on the actual cleanup of homes, businesses and damaged property."

Fazio tells us there are spots for people who can donate a lot of time or those who can only help out a little.  She says "we can work with your schedule.  There's plenty of need right now and you can make a difference."
