Lots of New Jerseyans are clamoring for more warm, summertime weather, but let's enjoy some "Spring" first.

After 80s on Sunday and 70s on Monday, some may be disappointed to hear this cooling trend continues for another day or two. I'm OK with this forecast — it's nice to have actual springtime weather in the springtime!

Thermometers are starting Tuesday morning near 50 degrees. Cool, crisp, and refreshing. Skies cleared out overnight, so we'll enjoy plenty of sunshine throughout Tuesday. That will help high temperatures bounce into the lower to mid 60s by Tuesday afternoon — perfectly normal for mid-April. Winds will be light and our weather will remain dry. I'm officially calling Tuesday "spring-tastic" on-air.

Tuesday evening will be pleasant, and Tuesday night will be cool and quiet. We'll see partly cloudy skies and lows falling into the seasonable lower to mid 40s.

It looks like New Jersey will experience a stretch of unsettled weather starting on Wednesday. Of that statement, I am confident. The other details of this forecast are still a bit wishy-washy — my numbers have (uncomfortably) changed quite a bit since Monday's forecast. I have no doubt these details will continue to change, as this forecast continues to evolve.

An important factor in Wednesday's forecast will be a brisk southeasterly wind. That will be a chilly wind, thanks to the chilly Atlantic Ocean — water temps are now between 50 and 56 degrees. So air temperatures will get stuck in the 50s for most of New Jersey on Wednesday afternoon.

Furthermore, the sky will feature a mix of sun and clouds. I sense the "clouds" will win the sky over the "sun," but don't quote me on that. There's a chance for a shower too, especially in North Jersey. But again, don't quote me — I wouldn't be surprised if most or all of New Jersey stays dry on Wednesday.

Winds will shift slightly on Thursday, to a southerly direction, which will make a big difference in temperatures. With warmer air bubbling into the state, we'll see a nice temperature recovery (read: warmup), especially in SW NJ. Northern and coastal parts of the state will reach the mid to upper 60s on Thursday. South Jersey will push into the lower to mid 70s.

A chance for a shower or even a thunderstorm will continue on Thursday. But again, that chance looks meager at best, given the latest model data.

Unsettled weather will continue through at least Friday morning, before a cold front clears out the "junk" from our atmosphere. Here's where the forecast becomes a dice roll. The GFS model keeps showers and clouds overhead for most of Friday. But I'm leaning toward some clearing by mid-to-late afternoon. A few breaks of sunshine would allow temperatures to jump well into the 70s. And it would set us up for a pleasant (but breezy and cooler) start to the weekend.

As long as our weather plays out reasonably close to this forecast, we'll see a nice Saturday, featuring partly sunny skies, a stiff breeze, and seasonably comfortable temperatures in the lower to mid 60s.

Sunday, on the other hand, will take an eventual turn toward more wet weather. For now, the first raindrops look to hold off until Sunday afternoon, with the heaviest stuff coming early Monday morning. But that timetable may shift in either direction as this forecast continues to evolve.
