NJ Sharing Network holding 5-K in Long Branch Sunday to help save lives
Come out to Ocean Avenue in Long Branch on Sunday morning and run for a great cause that could also help save a life.
Organization President Joe Roth says the event also serves as a critical fundraiser with the money going toward their foundation.
"We sponsor research into the science of donation and transplantation, we provide support to families in need waiting for a transplant and we also provide support to families who have received organs," Roth said.
He says they help people in need of a new organ get to the services they need.
"We provide the organs and the organs are allocated based on the national policy for allocation," Roth said. "The local centers are the ones that actually listing the patients and getting them ready for a transplant."
The event serves as an education campaign to inform the public about the urgent need for organ donations with nearly 4,000 people in New Jersey waiting for a transplant.
"People can help meet that need by signing up to be organ donors," Roth said.
On Sunday, everyone affected will be represented.
"We have teams that represent people waiting, we have teams that represent people whose family members donated and we also have teams that represent people who donated living organs," Roth said.
You can sign up in person on Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Ocean Place Resort & Spa in Long Branch.
