DEPTFORD — A Gloucester County man who is a registered sex offender in another state was arrested along with his girlfriend on charges of raping a girl who was younger than 15.

Gabriel Torres, 42, and Mary Giannone, 51, were arrested Thursday and charged with the sexual assaults, which prosecutors said occurred between October 2015 and December 2016.

New Jersey 101.5 learned Saturday that Torres was already considered a child predator by authorities outside the state.

Torres is registered as a sex offender in North Carolina, where he once lived as a fugitive from child sexual exploitation charges in Tennessee, records show.

Even though Torres remains registered on the North Carolina database, which lists his Westville address in New Jersey, Torres does not appear on the New Jersey State Police’s Megan’s List database.

Prosecutors were not immediately available Saturday afternoon to respond to questions.

A published report in Tennessee said Torres was arrested in North Carolina in 2009 on charges that he had 400 images of child pornography on a computer he had taken to be repaired in 2006 in Tennessee. Torres fled the state before officers arrested him.

The North Carolina registry says he was convicted in 2010 and sentenced to six years, although he was released May 5, 2014 — a year before prosecutors in New Jersey now say he began sexually assaulting the girl.

The girl’s relationship to the pair was not disclosed by prosecutors.

Torres was charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child for more than a year. Giannone is charged with sexual assault by contact and endangering the welfare of a child for an alleged offense on Oct. 14, 2015.

On her Facebook page, Giannone claims she works as a medical assistant at Advocare Marlton Pediatrics. The clinic was not available for comment Saturday.

Salem County jail booking photos show that Torres has a leg tattoo of a sexy devil woman with the name “Buffy” and another tattoo of a scantily clad woman with an angel’s halo and the name “Mary.” A tattoo on his arm reads “100% Loco.”

Giannone, meanwhile, has a tattoo of a heart with the name “Gabriel.”

The two live on Concord Avenue in Deptford, which uses a Westville mailing address.

Both remained locked up Saturday pending a court hearing. New Jersey 101.5 could not determine Saturday whether either had an attorney who could speak on their behalf.
