NJ nurse charged with sexually assaulting patients in emergency room

NEW BRUNSWICK — A nurse who worked at several hospitals has been charged with sexually assaulting two patients in the emergency room.

WIlber Hernanndez, 29, of Perth Amboy, was charged with assaulting a a 74-year-old female patient on June 29 and a 49-year old woman on Oct. 13. Both incidents took place at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey.

The registered nurse was suspended from his jobs at RWJ, Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick and Maxim Healthcare Services in North Brunswick pending the outcome of the investigation, authorities said.

Carey said Hernandez has also worked at Jersey City Medical Center, Hackensack Regional Medical Center, and St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson.

Hernandez was charged with sexual assault in the second degree and one count of criminal sexual assault in the fourth degree in connection with the June incident. He was charged with one count of criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree and lewdness in the October case.

Hernandez is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick.

New Jersey 101.5 did not know Thursday whether Hernandez had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

The arrest comes days after a New Jersey 101.5 investigation into doctors accused of sexual misconduct or convicted of sex crimes but who are still allowed to practice or reapply for their revoked licenses.
