KEARNY — Less than 24 hours after a woman was found stabbed to death in her town apartment, a man she was living with was arrested and charged with her murder.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said police were called to the home on Chestnut Street before 7 p.m. on Monday where they found the lifeless body of 46-year-old Luisa Cristina Reyna-Tello.

Suarez said Reyna-Tello had "apparent stab wounds," and was declared dead at the scene within a half hour.

Not long after, Jose Castro-Lavado, 36, was arrested by police and charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

A criminal complaint obtained by NJ.com claimed that Castro-Lavado was found with blood on him and he confessed to police that he had stabbed the woman.

Castro-Lavado and Reyna-Tello had three children together.

The murder is under investigation, and the Kearny Police Department is asking anyone with information to call the prosecutor's office at 201-915-1345. Information can also be submitted on the prosecutor's website.
