TRENTON — Police are looking for a man who they say threw a puppy out a third-floor window in a fit of rage.

Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said Anthony Maddock, 19, tossed his four-month-old American staffordshire terrier from the window of an apartment on Monmouth Street in Trenton on Sept. 21.

Duchess landed in a collapsed building next door.

Trenton firefighters were able to get into the house through the front door and rescue the dog, which had been severely injured.  Duchess was taken to the CARES Veterinary Hospital in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, where doctors repaired a broken leg.

Onofri said Maddock ran off after he threw Duchess out the window and has not been located. He faces charges of third-degree animal cruelty and has a court date on Oct. 17.

CARES said that one of its nurses adopted Duchess and renamed her Khloe.

"Khloe is two weeks post op after having her femur fixed. She is doing amazing, getting around great and loving life. She should recover fully and walk and act like a normal puppy," CARE spokeswoman Kelly Farnan said.
