Newark Liberty International Airport has been ranked the nation's worst airport for summer travel.

The findings are based on flight delays and were compiled by milecards.com based on data from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Four of the top seven worst summer airports are in our area.

While Newark Liberty stood head and shoulders above the rest, LaGuardia was the second worst, JFK was fourth worst, and Philadelphia was #7 on the list. That doesn't give us many good options near the Jersey Shore.

Here are some other facts you should know, according to the report, if you're planning on traveling this summer. June is the worst month for summer travel, with delays being greater than July or August.

And great news if you're lucky enough to be heading to Hawaii. The top two airports in the nation for on time arrivals are Honolulu (#2) and Kahului (#1).

The summer whole travel delay thing might make you want to do a good old Jersey Shore staycation and as you know if you live at the Jersey Shore, there's nothing wrong with that at all!
