The annual Thanksgiving Day game between Neptune and Asbury Park has been postponed to an undetermined date, the Asbury Park School District said in a statement to Shore Sports Network on Tuesday afternoon.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the traditional Thanksgiving Day football game between Asbury Park High School and Neptune Township High School is being postponed until a mutually agreeable date," the statement read

“On behalf of the Asbury Park and Neptune Township School Districts, be assured that the safety of our students, staff and communities remains paramount. We extend to you a Happy Thanksgiving!”

Neptune (0-9) and Asbury Park (5-4) were scheduled to square off at 10:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving at William "Butch" Bruno Stadium in their annual "Friendship Bowl" game. If the game is eventually played it will be the 90th meeting between the schools.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as additional information becomes available.
