Police began their search early Friday morning along Route 33 and the Shark River section of the Township after he fled on foot into a wooded area after threatening to discharge the weapon in his mouth.

According to accounts, the man was confronted by the store clerk over a soda he was accused of not paying for. However, police say he never pointed his gun at the store employee and it wasn't a robbery.

Police used helicopter surveillance, local patrolman from Neptune and Wall Townships and even closed Parkway exits 100 for several hours during the morning commute. They also advised Shark River residents to stay indoors with their doors locked because they considered him armed and dangerous.
