Neptune man dies following Saturday night crash in Manchester Township
A Neptune man passed away Saturday night from injuries sustained when his motorcycle was hit as he was heading east on Route 70 near Route 539 in Manchester by an SUV trying to turn into the Wawa from the westbound side around 8:45pm.
Police say 59-year old Gary Quatrano didn't properly secure the chin strap on his helmet while on his 2006 Yahama Royal ST which caused it to fly off upon impact.
25-year-old Katelyn Desaules of Toms River who was driving the 2006 Chrysler Pacifica suffered minor injuries while her SUV sustained some front end damage.
Quatrano was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he passed away from a head injury, while Desaules was transported to Community Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.
Detectives from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigations (CSI) Unit, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Support Team, firefighters from the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, EMTs from Quality Medical Transport and paramedics from MONOC were all on scene in the aftermath.
The road was closed for a few hours following the crash due to cleanup efforts.
