A Neptune man who allegedly held up a store on South Street in Newark Thursday by demanding money at gunpoint has been arrested and charged with robbery and weapon possession, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

22-year old Kalil Herring walked into the store on South Street Thursday afternoon and allegedly began demanding money at gunpoint, then fled the scene.

Witnesses told investigators they saw a man with Herring's description heading towards New Jersey Railroad Avenue and Ferry Street.

Police caught up with him near the 100-block of Ferry Street and he surrendered his 9-mm gun.

Herring is charged with Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

It's not clear if he took the money and how much.

No injuries have been reported.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
