Help for Sandy Survivors

Superstorm Sandy Survivors get more help with the grand opening of the new Bayshore

Resource Center in Highlands this Saturday. Bayshore Resource Center Director Ben Haygood calls it a one-stop shop for the Sandy survivor.

"What they will find is they're going to receive disaster case management, they can also use the self-help area, they can also schedule appointments for mental health professionals and they can also schedule appointments with agencies who can discuss financial counseling," Haygood said.

Their goal is to help pull all the resources together to get people back in their homes or to find housing, according to Haygood. He explains why it's not too late to offer help like this a year and a half after Superstorm Sandy.

"A lot of people I don't think realize how little actually has been done. There's a lot of money out there and a lot of people laying blame but there's still a lot of people that are displaced and they're still waiting to hear back on certain grants," said Haygood.

The Bayshore Resource Center will focus on offering free help to people in the Bayshore area which according to Haygood runs from Keyport to Highlands but he said that no Sandy survivor that needs help will be turned away.

The grand opening takes place on Saturday, June 7th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bahrs real estate building, 426 Route 36 at Linden Avenue, Highlands NJ. Normal hours of operation are Mondays from 12 noon to 7 p.m., Tuesdays through Friday from 10 a.m. To 4 p.m. Other hours are available by appointment.
