FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — A ride similar to the Fire Ball ride that broke apart at the Ohio State Fair has been pulled from the Monmouth County Fair.

Officials said Reithoffer Shows, a Florida company that operates the rides at the Monmouth County Fair, closed down a similar ride called The Claw on Wednesday night after hearing about the Ohio accident, which killed one person and injured seven.

KMG, a company based in the Netherlands, manufactures both rides.

An inspector from the state Department of Community Affairs went to the fairground in East Freehold and closed down the ride, according to the officials.  It will remain out of service until the ride’s manufacturer and the state inspectors give further guidance on what inspections may be needed.

All other rides at the fair will operate on Thursday, They were all inspected prior to opening by State DCA inspectors.

ABC 7 Eyewitness News reported the same ride used in Ohio was also at the Meadowlands State Fair earlier this month.

Monroe-based Amusements of America, which operates the rides at the Ohio State Fair, said on its Facebook page the ride was inspected by their staff and independent inspectors prior to the Ohio State Fair opening.

"Our family owned company is committed to working with state and local experts in trying to determine the cause of this tragic accident," the company said in a statement.
