LONG BEACH ISLAND - Beware of real estate scams. That’s what Long Beach Township Police are urging everyone to be careful of. Reports say a number of fake ads have popped up on sites like Craig’s List urging people to make down payments through their bank accounts. Some of the scams originate overseas.

LAKEWOOD – A jury is in place and pretrial motions are set to begin today in Toms River in the case of an accused cop killer. Jahmell Crockam is charged with gunning down Lakewood patrolsman Christopher Matlosz a year ago on a township street. He’s also charged in a separate murder.

UNION BEACH - A Union Beach teen is dead after a car accident over the weekend. Middletown Police say the unidentified victim was heading north on Dwight Road at the curve near Borden Road. He lost control and struck a utility pole. Witneseses are urged to call 732-615.2045.

TOMS RIVER - There are eighty five new troops joining the ranks of the New Jersey State Police. This is the first class since 2009 to have an increase in manpower. They formally took their oaths Friday at a graduation ceremony in Toms River. Officials say the recruits come from a varied background…14 percent are veterans, another 14 have prior law enforcement experience…ten percent were firefighter, and another ten were school teachers.

FREEHOLD - Fourteen years in jail…that’s the sentence for an Edison man who stabbed his estranged wife in Freehold on New Years Day 2009. Juan Rojas’ attack was overhead by a 911 operator, and ended with a high speed pursuit resulting with his surrender in Perth Amboy. In addition ot the jail time, Rojas must pay back the $18,000 in restitution to the victims of crime compensation board which paid for some of the victims medical bills.
